About Cambridge

Cambridge is a city in the east of England along the River Cam. It’s most well-known for Cambridge University, which was founded in 1209, and is among the best universities in the world. It’s also a city full of history, great restaurants, alternative student nightlife and the picturesque scenery surrounding the river.

Hostels in Cambridge are perfectly located to explore the city and its many attractions. You could choose to stay in a refurbished, uniquely decorated Cambridge hostel, or one with an in-house café, bar, and restaurant. If you prefer a homely vibe, choose a family-run guesthouse. All Cambridge hostels offer free Wi-Fi, so you’ll be able to stay connected during your stay.

As a city, Cambridge is very spread out and doesn’t have a typical centre – which makes it all the more fun to explore! The Quayside area is full of restaurants and traditional English pubs, and is the place to head if you want to try out punting on the river Cam, one of the most fun activities in the city! For a taste of café culture check out Romsey, a hipster approved neighbourhood that was recently voted the coolest in the UK. Head to the area surrounding Queens Road for cheap bars with a student vibe.

If you want to feel like Stephen Hawking in The Theory of Everything, one of your first stops should be to one of Cambridge’s 30 colleges; you might just feel the knowledge being absorbed into your brain as you walk through the iconic campuses. The Cambridge University Botanic Garden is another must on the University adventure if you fancy a stroll through 40 acres of landscaped garden with over 8000 species of plants. If you feel like laying back and chilling out, going for a punt or a boat tour will have you relaxed on the river in no time.

Cambridge has 8 Citi routes to get around the entire city, as well as Busway routes to get in to surrounding communities. There are a number of bike rental shops around central Cambridge, making it easy to explore the many cycle paths; and of course, punting is another way to get around the city and see the sights from a different perspective.
