But how do you meet people while solo travelling?

Planning your solo travel adventure?

How do you prepare for your solo travel adventure? Planning, spontaneity, or a bit of both?

Mapping out your trip can help you hit the spots you really care about, and you may feel more comfortable with an itinerary if it’s your first solo trip. If you’re more spontaneous, it’s still worth researching an area before you go and getting a rough idea of places or activities you really want to experience. And if plans change? Who cares! Remember, it’s your adventure. You call the shots.

Solo Travel FAQs

Your frequently asked questions

How to plan your solo travel adventure?

Whether it’s your first time solo travelling or you’re a seasoned lone ranger, planning is key! Have a list of destinations you want to visit on your trip and to pull out some highlights that are top of your list at each place. This will give you some structure, but still leave you with enough flexibility to go with the flow. Who knows where your new travel friends will take you!

Where are the best places to travel alone?

There’s no limit to the best destinations for solo travellers. City breaks, jungle adventures and beach vibes await. No matter where you are, staying in hostels will guarantee you the social travel experience of a lifetime. If you want some more in-depth advice, check out our solo travel destination guides.

When is the best time to solo travel?

As with all the best things in life… there’s no perfect time! Maybe you want an epic gap year before starting your career. Maybe you’ve found yourself at a time in your life when you have a bit more time to yourself and want to push yourself out of your comfort zone. Or maybe you have some bucket list destinations to tick off but no one to go with. The time is now. We only regret the opportunities we don’t take!

Which is the best age to travel alone?

There’s no age limit to solo travel. From gap-yearers to silver surfers, solo explorers of all ages have been around since the dawn of time. If you want to travel with other adventurers around your age, it’s easy to do! Checking whether your hostel is a party hostel, booking group tours that cater to your age category and chatting to other travellers on our travel app are all ways you can make sure you’ll be with other people on your vibe.

Is solo travel difficult?

Life is what you make it! If it’s your first solo trip, you might be a little nervous about travelling alone, so be kind to yourself and take it day by day. Do what you need to feel comfortable and take time to recharge. The fun will always be waiting for you when you choose to get back to it.

How do I overcome solo travel anxiety?

Having a plan for your first destination can really help to alleviate solo travel anxiety. It can also help to learn about the experiences of other solo travellers to know what to expect.  If you’re nervous about breaking the ice with fellow travellers, you can chat to other travellers before you get to your destination on our solo travel app. Always plan for worst-case scenarios, too!

What should you not do on a solo trip?

Everyone’s trip is different, and what works for you might not work for someone else. There are a few helpful do’s and don’ts though, especially if it’s your first time staying in a hostel. Bear your fellow travellers in mind, take safety precautions, and do what makes you happy!

How many days is ideal for a solo trip?

Some people test the water with a weekend away, others jump straight in at the deep end with a year-long adventure. There’s no right or wrong! Check out our solo travel destination guides for itineraries and advice.

Is solo travel good for the mind?

Undoubtedly. When else can you meet new people from all over the world, prioritise fun, get some headspace, and completely change up your routine? It’s your trip, lead for you, by you. You can’t get more mindful than that.

Solo travel or group travel?

There are benefits to both, and you can do both in one trip. Group travel tours can be a great way to kick off your solo travels, especially if you’re a first-timer. For full flexibility and an epic social experience, solo is the way to go. If you’re choosing between the two, our solo vs group travel guide can help you plan your perfect trip.

Is solo travelling worth it?

Of course, we’re going to say YES! But don’t just take our word for it. There is a huge community of solo travellers already out there who tend to be very supportive in answering questions. Solo travel fills your life with new friends, epic adventures and memories that will last a lifetime- 100% worth it in our books!
