About Paris
The City of Lights is one of the best places in Europe for a romantic weekend getaway, but it’s no stranger to backpackers or solo travellers. Paris is overflowing with museums, galleries and historical monuments to explore. It’s also the perfect place to sit back and watch the world go by in one of the many cafes.
Thanks to its reputation in the backpacker community, there are all kinds of cheap youth hostels in Paris to choose from. You can expect the usual benefits like free internet and breakfast, but some of the best hostels in Paris give you the option of relaxing on a waterfront terrace with a cold drink in hand.
Most Paris youth hostels are north of the river, but you won’t struggle to find cheap accommodation in the South either. Regardless of where you stay, there are shared dorms and private rooms, plus friendly hostel staff who can tell you all about the best spots normally reserved for locals.
The Marais is right in the city centre on the banks of the river Seine, perfect for strolling through the city streets in search of hidden treasures. The hilltop neighbourhood of Montmartre in the 18th arrondissement is full off cobblestone streets and plazas, while the Latin Quarter has more of a bohemian feel, thanks to the abundance of students, cool nightlife spots and ethnic restaurants.

Getting from Charles de Gaulle airport to the city centre is easy with the shuttle bus that runs throughout the day. If you’re taking the Eurostar, you’ll arrive at Gare Du Nord, which is puts you within walking distance of cheap Paris hostels, plus the Metro if you’re staying further out.
As for getting around town, the Metro is an affordable option, with tickets starting from just €1.90 for a single trip. If you’re staying for a week or more, consider purchasing a Navigo pass. The bus is another cheap option for getting around Paris that lets you take in more of the sights, or if you want a more unique take on Paris, the Batobus lets you take in the city from the river Seine.
